Memorial Cleaning

Much of memorial cleaning can be done yourself using common household products. However, stubborn stains that have occurred over time may require a professional cleaning. Call us for a quote.

7 Simple Steps  to Clean  a Granite Memorial

1. Plan to clean the memorial one to two times each year on a mild, overcast day in late spring and/or early fall, 55-70 degrees. Never select a hot, sunny or windy day.

2. Take with you these supplies: One pair of rubber gloves, a two-gallon bucket, a nylon scrub brush (never use a wire scrub brush on granite.), a half cup of non-phosphate liquid laundry detergent like Tide, Era, Wisk, etc., a garden hose to hook up to a water faucet at the cemetery, or several one gallon milk jugs filled with clean water, and a lot of patience, for this is the key to successful memorial cleaning.

3. When you reach the gravesite, mix in your bucket the laundry detergent and 1.5 gallons of water.

4. First soak the memorial down with clean water from your hose, or gallon jugs.

5. Begin at the bottom of the memorial. using the nylon scrub brush and  soapy water scrub your way up to the top. Use even strokes and a lot of elbow grease. Note: Be sure to not let the memorial dry while you are scrubbing with soapy water as this may leave white soap marks on the granite.

6. Rinse the memorial evenly with clean water.

7. Repeat this process until you are satisfied with the results.
